Study opportunities

We love people to dig deeper into the life of faith and run regular and occasional opportunities to support this. At least once a year there is an Exploring Christianity group for those who want to find out more about the key building blocks of Christianity. We also run a number of  ad hoc opportunities in the Parish Centre, especially during autumn term and Lent. Forthcoming study opportunities are listed on each week’s notice sheet and we warmly encourage parishioners to tap into the excellent resources on offer through the Cathedral Study Centre.

The parish presently has several adult Home Groups. These small gatherings for Bible Study, prayer and friendship meet in parishioners’ houses on a roughly monthly basis – more frequently if a group desires. Home groups are intended to lead us into deeper holiness and more effective mission. As such they will not remain static but are hoped to bud and split as more people are inspired to become involved. Please contact one of the clergy in the first instance if you would like to explore joining a group.

FEED Foodbank

St Michael’s and St Mary’s support FEED foodbank based at the St Albans Vineyard Fellowship. Much more than food is dispensed. Volunteers also provide help, support and advice in caring for those who are at difficult or vulnerable points in their life. Items may be brought to St Michael’s on a Sunday or Wednesday and put in the FEED collection box in the Tower Room. Items brought to St Mary’s will be taken to St Michael’s and sent on to FEED.

FEED would be grateful for the following donations:

    • Coffee and sugar
    • Spaghetti, macaroni
    • Puddings, jams and spreads

The Friends of St. Michael’s Church

The Friends exist to “maintain, repair, renew, improve and enhance the structure and fabric, furnishings, memorials and fittings of the Church of St.Michael, St.Albans.” The appeal of the Friends has always been to people who, while not necessarily churchgoers, nevertheless feel the presence of St.Michael’s to be of vital importance in the local community. Over the years they have raised £120,000 – hard work, but good fun.

The Friends is managed by a small committee. Membership is open to all with the annual subscription of five pounds per person and ten pounds for a family.
