On Sundays, St.Michael's caters for children during the period of the 9.30 a.m. service. Below are details of the three
main schemes, and children are most welcome to join the appropriate group. Parents of the youngest children can
stay at the Climbers meeting or may leave their children while they come to our 9.30 a.m. Family
Service. (Children will be brought into church to join their parents part-way through the service). We
do have other activities at our church, and details of these will be found in our Parish Magazine or by speaking
to our Parish Administrator at the Parish Office or to one of the clergy or Church Wardens.
Climbers - For children aged 0 - 5 years
Climbers is for children aged between 0 and 5 years, and meets from 9.30 a.m. until 10.15 a.m. on a Sunday
morning, during term-time, in the downstairs room of the Parish Centre. These are very relaxed and informal
sessions with play and activity, and a drink of juice and a biscuit included. Key events such as Easter, Mothering
Sunday, Christmas etc. are recognised with a more structured activity. Parents are welcome to stay, or may
leave their child/children while they attend the 9.30 a.m. church service. If you want to know more, please
contact either Deirdre Cairns or Sarah McJannet through the Parish Office.
Explorers - For children aged 5 - 9 years
Explorers is for children of school age from rising 5 years to 9 years, and we meet from 9.30 a.m. until 10.20 a.m.
on a Sunday morning, during term-time, in St Michael's School. We aim to offer Christian nurture with the emphasis
on fun. The majority of our lessons are based on Bible readings, with worksheets and activities from Christian
literature, but we also learn about other countries and religions. We also enjoy musical and dramatic
activities. If you want to know more, please contact Pauline Willey through the Parish Office
Trailblazers - For children 9 - 13 years and over
Children who are aged from nine years until Confirmation (12+ years) are welcome to attend Trailblazers
from 9.30 a.m. until 10.30 a.m. on a Sunday morning, during term-time, in St Michael's School. At Trailblazers
we try to ensure that the children have fun! The session begins with worship, a reading from the Bible and
prayer. This is followed by a fun activity such as drama, cooking, games, unihoc, computers, music, dance,
football etc. – something for everyone. Once a term, and at special festivals such as Harvest and Christmas, we
take a fuller part in the Parish Communion service by writing and leading the prayers, or putting on a playlet
or presentation of our work. If you want to know more please contact through the Parish Office, one of the
leaders of the group: Anita Lindeman, Genevra Mann or Anne Harrold .
